Mrs. Caroline (sic) Harper Barnhardt, widow of Thomas M. Barnhardt, Sr., died suddenly early yesterday morning at her home, 1100 Central avenue. She lacked only five days of reaching her eightieth birthday, as she was born August 6, 1871.
She was born in Lenoir, a daughter of the late S. F. Harper and Mary Gwyn Harper of that city. She attended Kirkwood school in Lenoir and Peace institute in Raleigh.
Mrs. Barnhardt was a member of Covenant Presbyterian church and Liberty Hall chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
She had lived in Charlotte since shortly after the turn of the century, following her marriage on December 4, 1900, to Mr. Barnhardt, who was president of Barnhardt Manufacturing company and widely recognized as a captain of industry and commerce. Mr. Barnhardt died in 1946. She had been president of the company since that time.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Nell Barnhardt of Charlotte and Mrs. Moreland Lewis of Ruston, La.; three sons, Thomas M. Barnhardt, Jr., J. C. Barnhardt, and James H. Barnhardt all of Charlotte and all of whom hold high executive offices with Barnhardt Manufacturing company; two sisters, Mrs. Graham Hull of Marion, Va., and Miss Mabel Harper of Charlotte; two brothers, Gwyn Harper of Hickory and Richard Harper of San Carlos, Calif.; also nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon at Covenant Presbyterian church by Rev. James B. Ficklen, co-pastor of the church. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. The body is in the chapel of Z. A. Hovis & Son.
Active pallbearers will be J. E. McGraw, C. N. Sloan, W. S. Cunningham, John Otts, Dr. John R. Pharr, and H. F. Wolfe. Honorary pallbearers will be the officers of Covenant Presbyterian church and the following:
Dr. H. Stokes Munroe, Dr. Colin A. Munroe, James Brandes, Charles Beagle, Reid Caldwell, George B. Chapman, J. C. Thompson and R. K. Webb.
