Eliza Gabriel was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1845, and was educated in a school conducted by the Episcopal Church and later became a religious governess. She came to America when 24 years of age with a younger brother and an uncle's family (Thomas and Jane Gabriel, also founders of the Bethel Methodist Church).
Albert and Eliza lived in Macon County, Illinois where they raised their 6 children:

Emma Estella ("Stella") Nicholls b 1876
Nellie Lenora Nicholls. b. 1877 d. 1887
Albert C. Nicholls b. 1880

In February of 1892, Albert and his family went west to Clay Co, Nebraska settling on a farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Edgar. About 1906, he retired from farming and moved into the town of Edgar where he died in 1916. His widow Eliza died in 1923.
