He was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #3, Richmond, Virginia on June 29, 1862 with a gunshot wound of the thumb. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on October 14, 1862. He was wounded in the foot at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1863 and was captured at Gettysburg on July 5, 1863 and confined at DeCamp Hospital at Davids Island, New York Harbor until paroled at Davids Island on August 24, 1863. He died at General Hospital #2, Lynchburg, Virginia on May 19, 1864 of vulnus sclopetarium (wound inflicted by a gunshot).
