Walter A. Barnhart, 76 of Rt. 1 Letts, died at 5:45 a..m. today at Muscatine General Hospital.

Mr. Barnhart was a life resident of the community. He was born March 5, 1889, in Muscatine county, the son of Edward and Etta Cook Barnhart.

He was married June 14, 1916, in Muscatine county, to Gertrude Gertenbach.

A farmer, Mr. Barnhart was a member of Cranston E. U. B. church.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Gertrude Barnhart, Rt. 1, Letts; two sons, Wayne Barnhart of Boulder, Colo., and Weldon Barnhart, Rt. 5 Muscatine; four daughters, JoAnn Barnhart and Mrs. Henry (Phyllis) Rahlf Jr. of Muscatine, Mrs. Richard (Gladys) Castle of Wapello, and Mrs. Herman (Velma Jean) Theobald Jr., Muscatine; three brothers, Frank Barnhart of Conesville, Harris Barnhart of Sigourney, and Raymond Barnhart of Rock Island; three sisters, Mrs. Merle Runyon of Rock Island, Mrs. Elsie Benson of Washington and Mrs. Louie Crow of Ft. Meyers, Fla.;and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two children in infancy.

The body is now at the Ralph J. Wittich funeral home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev Richard Eis will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery.
