Immigrated to the US in June 1848 on the ship Uhland from Bremen, Germany with wife Dorothea and three sons, Heinrich, Konrad, and Hermann. The family had lived in Pieperburg, Lippe, Germany, a community near Bosingfeld. After settling in Freelandville more sons were born to the family, including Charles and Theodore. Hermann and Konrad and their families eventually settled in Kansas, and several of their sons later homesteaded in Oklahoma Territory.
