Merton Henderson "Bud" Abbott, 80, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Passavant Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Naples, the son of Merton Henry and Shirley Henderson Abbott. He married Patricia Hoatson in 1947 in Western Springs.

Mr. Abbott was a 1949 graduate of Illinois College. He worked for International Harvester and then for the Air National Guard as comptroller of the 183rd Tactical Fighter Squadron in Springfield. He was a former member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of Jacksonville Elks Lodge. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force as a B-17 pilot, flying missions over Germany.

Survivors: wife, Patricia; two daughters, Susan (husband Steve) Gordon of Madison, Wis., and Christine (husband Steve) Bedford of Chatham; a son, John Ramsey (wife Ruth) Abbott of Denver; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services: Cody and Son Memorial Home, Jacksonville. Burial: Woodwreath Cemetery.
