Francetta Marie Taylor, daughter of Ralph and Hazel Beatrice Webber VanSickle, was born June 22, 1921 at Cooper, Iowa and died Aug. 24, 2010 at the Gowrie Care Center in Gowrie, Iowa, at the age of 89 years 2 months, and 2 days.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Pastor Larry Monthei of the Hope United Methodist Parish in Cooper presided. Francetta's honorary casket bearers were Sally Hall Brown, Jennifer West Dudding, Bryon West, Megan Tunnell, Nicole Shobert, Kendall Mullen, Haylee Taylor, Mason Taylor, Clayton Taylor, Jarret Dudding, Noel Dudding, Morgan Taylor, Spencer Taylor, Brian Tunnell, Elizabeth Tunnell, Brittney Tunnell, Lilly Shobert and Addalyn Mullen. Her casket bearers were Jeffery Hall, Clark Taylor, Trent Taylor, Lance Taylor, Jordan Taylor and Daniel Taylor. Sheryl Sloan was the pianist with Gary Haupert as the soloist. The music was "Amazing Grace" and "One Day At A Time." The burial was in Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson.
Francetta grew up on her family's farm near Winkleman's Switch. She attended Grant Township Country School #1 and then Franklin Township School through the eleventh grade. On May 11, 1937, she was united in marriage with Walter James Taylor at Lakewood, Minn. They were the parents of three children – Virginia Ann, Larry James and Vickie Lee. They farmed in Greenbrier Township, Greene County until 1991, when they moved into Jefferson to make their home.
Francetta was a homemaker who enjoyed maintaining an immaculate house. Her hobbies included traveling, gardening, sewing, cooking and watching All-Star Wrestling. Francetta enjoyed attending sporting and musical events of her children and grandchildren. When in Jefferson, she attended morning coffee with friends at the Family Table. She always enjoyed being "on the go!" She especially enjoyed wintering with Walter in Texas and California. Following Walter's death, Francetta continued to winter in Texas where she was baptized at a local Lutheran church. She also volunteered at the Lutheran Mission in Texas that offered food and clothing to low-income families.
Francetta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter on March 27, 1997; her daughter, Vickie and sister, Beverly Fetters. She is survived by her son, Larry Taylor and his wife Lou of Farnhamville; her daughter, Virginia Hall and her husband, Jerry of Catoosa, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Sally (Bill) Brown of Catoosa, Okla., Jeffery (Deborah) Hall of Tahlequah, Okla., Clark (Jennifer) Taylor of Lohrville, Trent (Shelli) Taylor of LeGrand, Lance (Sheila) Taylor of Morton, Ill., Jennifer (Jerry) Dudding of Missouri and Bryon West of Missouri; 7 great-grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Tunnell of Broken Arrow, Okla., Nicole (Tony) Shobert of Noble, Okla., Kendall (Steve) Mullen of Glenpool, Okla., Jordan Taylor and Haylee Taylor of LeGrand, Daniel, Mason and Clayton Taylor of Lohrville, Jarret Dudding and Noel Dudding of Missouri and Morgan and Spencer Taylor of Morton, Ill. A lunch was prepared and served by the Ladies of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson after the service at the cemetery. Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson was in charge of Ms. Taylor's services. Memorials for the family may be left at the funeral home.
