He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Smithie Gettys of Kannapolis NC. He was killed in action while serving with the 7th Infantry in North Africa. He was awarded the EAMET Medal and the Purple Heart. WWII deceased returned from Plot 1, Row 1, Grave 7 Fedala Christian Cemetery, Morocco.
