JAMES ODIS DENEY
James Odis Deney, son of James and Jane Deney, was born on August 25, 1881, in Springfield, Greene County, Mo., and passed away February 13, 1972, at the Chariton Manor in Chariton, at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 19 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Edith Botkin on June 4, 1906 and to this union 15 children were born. He had been a farmer in Lucas and Wayne Counties until retiring and moving to Chariton in 1950.
He was preceded in death his wife Mary on September 30, 1970; 1 daughter and 1 son; and his parents.
Surviving him are 13 children: Mrs. Everett (Ollie) Darrah of Centerville; Mrs. Jay (Susan) Oxenreider of Roundup, Mont.; Mrs. Arthur (Iona) Greig of Cashmere, Wash.; Mrs. Ernest (Viola) Sanders of Yakima, Wash.; Mrs. Thelma Jenkins of Redding, Calif.; Odis Deney of Sandy, Ore.; Mrs. Russell (LaVeta) Hull of Chariton; Mrs. Ray (Maxine) Wignall of Des Moines; Mrs. Leota Vail of Kodiak, Alaska; Mrs. John (Gladys) Adcock of Chariton; Gerald Deney of Chariton; William Deney and Robert Deney, both of Stockton, Iowa; 48 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. C. Hook at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 15, 1972, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
