He was born March 8, 1917 in Laketown, Utah, to Heber and Sarah Myers.
Russel served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He served an honorable LDS Mission in the Western States from 1938 to 1940. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. He especially enjoyed being a Home Teacher. He worked in the scouting program for many years and was awarded the Silver Beaver for his service.
On September 25, 1942, Russel married Barbara Richards in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had eight children: Michael, Sharon, Floyd (Jody), Boyd, Julia Marline Hackleman, Myron (Connie), Helen (Kim) Bray and Melinda (Alan) Sessions, with 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Myers.
He enjoyed gardening, lapidary work, jewelry making and spending time in Laketown, Utah during the summer months.
Russel was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his parents; four brothers and one sister; his son, Michael; and a granddaughter, Mary Jo Myers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 30th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Primary Children's Hospital, 100 N. Mario Capecchi Dr., SLC, UT 84113-1100.
