He was a farmer. Enlisted in the Conferate Army where he was a private in company E 43 Infantry. He was captured at Champion Hill at Vicksburg Ms. and sent to Pea Patch Island in Deleware. He moved his family to Forsyth county in 1850's. His mother was Nicey Millwood. His father was William Sprouse both lived in Union SC.
