Obituary of James Ira Billings


James Ira Billings died at Mercy Hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1900, at Harding, the son of Milbra A. and Caroline Herring Billings. He married Elsie Elizabeth Lilly, Jan. 23, 1923, at Fort Scott. They farmed in the Hiattville area before moving to Fort Scott in 1965. Mr. Billings was a member of the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers. He played fiddle and banjo in the Older American Band and Fort Scott Senior Swingers.

Survivors include the wife of the home; a son, Francis L. Billings; three sisters, Leota Sipe, Lottie Dent and Helen Lenaberg; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son.

The Rev. R.B. Shoemaker will conduct services at Cheney's Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Mapleton City Cemetery
