An obituary for John W. Allen, published in the Windsor Gazette, February 14, 1952, states that he had died at his home in Windsor, Feb. 5, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 15 days. Mr. Allen was born in Holland township, Feb. 20, 1863, a son of Jediah and Mary Allen. He joined the Methodist Church at the age of thirteen years, was a faithful member and attended church as long as his health permitted. He married Carrie B. Cook, Feb. 2, 1888. They resided on a farm near Windsor until March, 1908, when they moved to a farm near Miller, S. Dakota, where they resided 40 years. When Mr. Allen’s health failed, they returned to Illinois and bought a home in Windsor. Surviving were his wife, three daughters and three sons, namely, Mrs. Wm. [Lelia] Matsinger, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Virgil [Edna] Collins, Strasburg; Mrs. Raymond [Alta] York, Chicago; Zoe Allen, Miller, S. Dakota; Virgil Allen, Oregon City, Oregon; Aubrey Allen, North Hollywood, Calif. A daughter Goldie preceded him in death. There were also 23 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Forest Allen of Fisher, Ill., and two sisters, Lora Allen and Dora Sapp of Shelbyville. Burial was in Windsor Cemetery.
