Peter was the son of Jan "John" Alyea and Maricha (Maria/Mary) Banta (Bonter), Loyalists during the American Revolutionary War, his parents left their large New Jersey family - for Canada.

Peter married Elizabeth Shears, daughter of John David Shears and Pheobe Elizabeth Alley on 7 Oct 1824, in Prince Edward, Ontario, Canada.

Father's info, per Peter Stanley Jackson:
John Alyea petitioned for land in 1797 and again in 1798. In 1798 it states that he with his wife and two children had been residents of the Trenton area (may say Thurlow) for three years.
A petition made by his son Peter says that John Alyea settled the East half of lot 99 in Ameliasburgh about 1810. The land was virgin at that time and he cleared about 40 acres, building a house and planting an orchard. He [John] died about 1834.
