This memorial is to honor our ancestor, Hezekiah E. Nickerson, a Master Mariner who hailed from the South Orleans/East Harwich area of Barnstable County, Massachusetts.
Born July 12, 1816, he was the youngest son of Henry Nickerson and Jane Eldredge.

He and Mehitable Crosby were married November 14, 1837 in Harwich by the Rev. James Bicknell. Their intentions to marry (November 3, 1837) and their marriage date are recorded in old Harwich Vital Records.

Hezekiah was of English and Native American descent, as was his wife Mehitable. His favorite pastime was duck hunting.

They had the following children:

Hezekiah passed away July 1, 1871 from stomach cancer.
His epitaph reads, "He lives, gone where the weary rest; From sorrow, toil, and pain. No sickness or destroying death; Shall visit him again."

Hezekiah and Mehitable (Crosby) appear in the old Harwich Town Records, with intentions to marry declared November 3, 1837 (page 400), and the marriage taking place on November 14, 1837 (page 261).
Hezekiah's residence at that time was listed as Harwich, and Mehitable's as Brewster.
