TONKAWA — Loretta Ruth Martin, resident of Tonkawa, died Wednesday evening, June 29, 2006, in Blackwell Regional Hospital. She was 62.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Tonkawa Tribal Building at Fort Oakland with the Rev. Don Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Tonkawa Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home.

Loretta Ruth Martin was born April 3, 1944, in Washunga, the daughter of Sherman Willard and Betty Alice Gorton Hunt. She grew up in Washunga and attended school there before moving to Ponca City for a short time. They then moved to Tonkawa at the age of seven, where she completed her education.

Following her education she married Francis Gene "Sonny" Martin Sr. and they settled in Wichita, Kan. In 1971 they returned to Tonkawa and she began working at the Tonkawa Foundry. In 1976 she began working as a dye cutter for Southwest Cupid in Blackwell and worked there for 25 years before her retirement.

She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed various Indian culture, needlepoint, fishing and working with children.

Survivors include her daughter, Loretta "Jeanie" Martin of Fort Oakland; four sons, David Lee Martin and Michael Elliott Martin, both of Fort Oakland, and Stephen Wayne Martin and Scott Thomas Stout, both of Tonkawa; two sisters, Linda Louise Evans of Tonkawa and Rose Askren of Blackwell; a brother, Billy Dale of Kaw City; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974; her parents; a son, Francis Gene Martin Jr.; a sister, Wanda Cole; a brother, Sherman Hunt; and five great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be David Lee Martin, Michael Elliott Martin, Stephen Wayne Martin and Scott Tomas Stout.

Honorary bearers will be Dru Lee Martin, Dustin Gene Martin, Chance Ty Martin and Ethan Elliott Martin.
