He married Scottish-born Martha Scotten, Scott, or Strickler (all reported) and fathered Jacob T. (b. 06/01/51), William J. (b. 05/24/54), Mary E. (b. 1855, d. 1867), Benjamin F. (b./d. 1857), Joseph P. (b. 1859, d. 1860), Martha J. (b. 07/25/63 - married a Miller), Samuel James (b. 09/28/65), Charles H. (b. 02/03/67), Drias G. (b./d. 1870), Silas (b. 05/13/72), and Clark (b. ?). In 1860, he was a blacksmith living in Peach Bottom Township, York County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 6" tall.
