Harold L. Allen Ends Life at Beach Home
Harold Lynn Allen, 68, former co-publisher of the Ontario Daily Report, ended his life at his home in Corona del Mar on Tuesday, according to a report from Coroner Earl R. Abbey of Orange county. The coroner reported Mr. Allen had been in ill health and despondent for a number of weeks. His body was found in his garage with a robe draped over his head and the exhaust pipe of a car.
Mr. Allen, with his brother, the late Crombie Allen, published the Ontario paper from 1911 to 1930, when they sold it to the late Frank Appleby. Mrs. Jerene Appleby Harnish is now publisher.
Funeral services will be held from the Richardson mortuary in Ontario at 2 p.m. Saturday with cremation following.
