Funeral services for Luther G. Baker, 68, who died early New Year's morning, were held Saturday at the Eldon Baptist Church, the Rev.Malcolm A. Younger officiated. Interment was in the Eldon Cemetery with Kays Funeral Service in charge.
Mr. Baker, who lost his eyesight in 1923, died at Charles E. Still Hospital in Jefferson City. He had undergone an operation a few days previously.
The son of James and Nancy Baker, he was born November 22, 1884, in Osage County. In 1913 he was married to Miss Pearl Owens. They were the parents of three children.
Mr. and Mrs. Baker operated a farm in Pettis County during their early married life. Later he worked on the construction crew for the Rock Island Railroad and then as an inspector in a shoe factory in Jefferson City. While employed in this position, he lost his eyesight in an accident in 1923.
In 1940 Mr. Baker moved his family to Eldon where he has since resided. After coming to Eldon Mr. Baker engaged in the real estate business, having purchased and resold several pieces of property. Only recently he bought the Howser Hotel.
Although unable to work outdoors after his accident, he helped with the home work and in rearing his children whom he never had the pleasure of seeing.
Mr. Baker joined the Clarksburg Baptist Church in 1936, retaining his membership there. He also was a member of the Missouri Association of the Blind.
Survivors include his widow, Pearl; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Derby of Eldon and Mrs. Donald Stark of Rolla; four brothers, four sisters and four grandchildren.
