Mrs. Dixie Mae Hodges Hayes, 87, of Baird's Creek Road, Vilas, died Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2008 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation.
She was born May 22, 1920 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late James Gilbert and Florence Presnell Hodges.
Mrs. Hayes was retired from ASU, and was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Dwight W. Hayes, one daughter, Linda Gragg of Vilas; one son, James Hayes and wife, Julie, of Vilas; six grandchildren, Rick Hayes of Newton, Dixanna Howell and husband, David, of Newton, Mark Gragg and wife, Jennifer, of Lewisville, Robert Gragg and wife, Melissa, of Hiddenite, Carrie Hayes and Matthew Hayes, both of Vilas; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and a number of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William H. "Bill" Hayes; and nine brothers and sisters.
Services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2008, at 3 o'clock at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Wynn Greer and the Rev. Carl Wilson. Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, in care of Rev. Wynn Greer, 201 Circle Drive West, Vilas, N.C. 28692, or to High Country Health Care System Hospice, 400 Shadowline Drive, Suite 100-B, Boone, N.C. 28607.
