Art went to North High School, where he excelled in athletics, playing three years each in basketball and baseball, and Captain of the latter. He attended Ohio State University, graduating in 1931, and played baseball there with Wes Fesler. In 1934 his high school sweetheart, Nadine Berry, graduated from Ohio State, and they were married. They had two sons. Art died unexpectedly in 1957.
