She was the daughter of Civil War Veteran, Levi W. Sherman and Jane Helen Robison. She is named in the Civil War Pension records of her mother and also in her mother's probate records as an heir, Sarah Byfield and her post office being in Butler, Oklahoma.

Early Records:
Born April 9, 1858 in Summer Hill, Cayuga County, New York. From her mother's Civil War Pension Record.
1860 She's in Cincinnatus, Cortland, New York, USA with her parents and her brother William in the home of her grandfather, David M. Sherman.
1870 She's in Polk, Benton, Iowa, USA in the home of her widowed mother , brother William and half brother Oscar. Names are indexed "Oney"
1874 She married George Byfield in Benton County, Iowa

NOTE: She was not the daughter of Joseph Sherman and Mary Stahl as was on this memorial and many family trees. Joseph Sherman's probate would be found in box 763 in Ulster County, New York if anyone cares to obtain it. A daughter Sarah Byfield would not be mentioned. It appears the incorrect parents come from a family book:
BYFIELD - Four Generations: The Descendants of Abraham Byfield and Patience Corbin Paperback, Published September 4, 2015 page 144 by Paul W Carpenter
Please see her mother's memorial for more information and documentation of her parents.

Newspaper article of her visiting family in Urbana, Iowa: Mrs Sarah Byfield returned to her home at Coryville, Oklahoma, on Wednesday after a visit to relatives here and at Urbana. Cedar Rapids, Iowa Friday, December 14, 1906.
