Mr. Yates, 84, died Oct. 13, 2007. He was born on Sept. 20, 1923, to Earl Yates Sr. and Jessie Mae Smith Yates.
He was a retired drug representative for veterinary supplies. He was a member of the Greatest Generation Coffee Club and volunteered at the military museum. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Marjorie Walker Yates; and his son, Scott Walker Yates.
Survivors are his sons, Rusty Yates, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Pat and Robert Bowton, of Brookhaven; his brother, Charles Yates, of Philadelphia; his sister, Quida Moore, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Sheri Thibodeaux and Sandy Barker, both of Brookhaven; and six great-grandchildren.
