By the age of 22, he was a farmer, and operated his own poultry farm in Rio Linda. He married Josephine Margaret Bean on June 19, 1935. They were married for close to eight years, before his untimely death in 1943, at the age of 48. He was interred in the Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum in Sacramento. His wife is buried beside him.
