Sabra was born to pioneer people many of whom had crossed the Plains to gather in Utah. Her branch of Higbee's had been asked to settle Arizona. Sabra attended Gila Academy with Spencer W Kimball.

Sabra met Samuel (Papa) Alfred McLaughlin in Graham County Arizona; he was in the USArmy Calvary under General John Pershing while guarding the US-Mexico border from Pancho Villa. Story is she "met" Pancho while she was tending the telephone PBX. Pancho and his men shot the PBX and destroyed it and communications from the town.

Sabra and Sam married and produced three children: Alfred Reed, Sibyl and J Douglas.

The family moved to Los Angeles in 1922. They drove the old wooden one-lane road across the sand dunes of Southern California Mojave desert. Periodically one would have to lift and shake the sand from the road to continue driving. When encountering opposing traffic, one car would have to be picked up and moved cooperatively by the occupants aside to let the other pass then relocated to the "road way".

Sabra was a self-taught, skilled and talented pianist-organist. Papa bought her a beautiful Steinway grand piano which they had in their living room. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to develop their musical talents.

She had a dedicated testimony of the Gospel of the Savior and was baptised into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Papa followed her into the waters of baptism. She served the Church with her musical talents.

Sabra and Sam held their extended family together with numerous family get-to-gethers. It was so much fun to be at their home with our small family of grandparents, 3 pairs of uncle-aunts and 9 grandchildren.

Papa died suddenly with only a simple sigh and was gone. It was hard on Sabra, but coming from hardy pioneer stock she managed alone for 20 years. Eventually Alzheimer' disease captured her mind, lingering for many years, under the care of J Douglas and Ivy, son and daughter-in-law and her grandchildren John Robert, Douglas Reed and Rex Rogers McLaughlin because the rest of the small McLaughlin Clan had moved out of state.

Sabra was sister to John Calvin Reed, Vivian Reed (Nash), Irene Reed (Stewart), Afton Mineon Reed, Bernice Reed, Warren Kenneth Reed, La Fawn Reed (Frost), Richard Rex Reed
