MRS. ELIZA ANN TILLEY, 93, DIES IN SHELBYVILLE

Mrs. Eliza Ann Tilley, aged 93 widow of Sanford Tilley, died Monday at her home in Shelbyville. Death resulted from ailments incident to senility.
She was the mother of Samuel L. Tilley, county treasurer of Shelby county, with whom she resided. Mr. Tilley and his mother moved from their farm north of Tower Hill to Shelbyville about 2 years ago.
She was born Eliza Ann Payne October 9, 1842, at Circleville, Ohio. She was married to Sanford Tilley in 1863 in Shelby county and began housekeeping on what is known as the Tilley homestead, 4 miles north of Tower Hill.
Her age at date of death was 93 years, 8 months and 13 days. For several years it has been a custom to celebrate her birthday on the Sunday nearest her birthday, all her relatives attending, also many friends who live in the community where she so long resided.
For many years she was an active member of the Christian church, and was well known as a lady of much generosity and kindliness. She was able to do most of her household duties until 1929.
In her late eighties she began to slowly fail and infirmities of her advanced age caused her to retire from activities about her home. During her declining years she was greatly pleased with radio programs.
Her husband, Sanford Tilley, has been dead about 20 years. A daughter, Mrs. Lulu Sicking, resides in St. Louis, Mo. There are also these sons: Willis Tilley, Delta, Colo.; Link Tilley, Fischer, Colo.; Joe Tilley, Walter, Okla.; Truman Tilley, Tower Hill; Ben Tilley, Pueblo, Colo., and Samuel Tilley, Shelbyville.
The last named has several lines of business in addition to that of being treasurer of Shelby county. He manages his farm, deals largely in stock, and also owns 2 stores, a meat market and grocery in Shelbyville and the Modern Red and White grocery and meat market in Pana. The. family is well known here.
Mrs. Tilley also leaves a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was deeply devoted.
Last rites were conducted today at 3:00 p. m. at the Christian church in Henton. Rev. Ward, pastor of the Shelbyville Christian church, officiated. Burial was in the cemetery at Henton. The Stumpf funeral service was in charge of all arrangements.
