John Marshall Aitken was born on February 8, 1870 in Chicago, IL, to John D. and Annie Aitken. John immigrated to Washington Territory in 1878 with his family, to what is now Enterprise, Whatcom County. He married Alvaretta Everett on July 13, 1890 in Custer, Whatcom Co., WA.

John was the Game Warden for the area around Lake Terrell. He ran for Sheriff in 1812, progressive party, but was defeated by L. A. Thomas, he ran again in 1914 and was defeated by W. Stewart.

John and Alvaretta moved into Bellingham, Whatcom County where he died on July 28, 1942.
