Elmer Leon Cowart, 73, died last Wednesday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Dublin after a long illness.

The Tattnall County native was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Reidsville Pentecostal Holiness Church and a retired logger.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cenie Cowart of Reidsville; three brothers, Carl L. and Olin Cowart, both of Reidsville, and Arthur Cowart of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Callie Peeples of Brunswick and Mrs. Mary Nell Wilson of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of McCall-Cobb Funeral Home in Reidsville last Friday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Gene Poole officiating assisted by Rev. C.M. Butler. Interment was in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Clifford Franklin, James Scott, Howard Willis, Jerry Cowart, Randy Bradham, Monroe Lindsay.

Honorary pallbearers were James Willis, Rev. G. Roy Scott, Gene Kirkland, Swinton Smith, Billy Hutcheson, Junior Padgett, George Franklin.

McCall-Cobb Funeral Home of Reidsville was in charge of arrangements.
