While C.S. Boutwell was returning from a hunt in his wagon in company with his son and grandson about nine miles from town at 11 o'clock this morning his gun, which he carried between himself and one of the boys, was accidentally discharged while passing through some thick brush, the contents passing through below and above his left elbow, severing the main artery, he bleeding to death before medical aid could reach him, living but two hours. Mr. Boutwell served in the Mexican war of 1846 and lived some time in Karnes County, and was at one time sheriff of Live Oak County, was one of the first settlers of La Salle County, is 63 years of age and leaves a wife and large family of his and grandchildren to mourn his untimely death.


C.S. Boutwell was the son of Chappell Spencer and Henrietta Micklejohn Boutwell. He was married to Suzanna Futch who died in 1873 in Live Oak County, Texas.
