Mrs. Maude I. Swartz

Maude Isobel Blankinship was born near Blue Mound, Illinois, January 7, 1874, and passed away at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings Nebraska, July 21, 1942, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 14 days.

When sixteen years of age she came with her parents to Edgar, Nebraska, and finished her education here to become a teacher in this vicinity.

On June 1, 1898, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Miller of Bladen, Nebraska, to make this her home for twenty-six years.

On July 21, 1913, she was called upon to give up her husband in death, being left with four small children to whom she was both mother and father.

Before leaving Illinois she fulfilled her Lord's plan of salvation and to the day of her death was a devoted Christian. Only a few hours before she passed away she was very happy quoting loved passages from the Scripture with her pastor.

It had been her habit for years to read her Bible through each year---the Old Testament twice through the New Testament once.

Blessed with a happy, cheery disposition, with a sympathetic understanding of human nature, she will be sadly missed by her circle of friends and church associates.

The immediate family of this Christian mother consists of her aged husband, C. R. Swartz, who is being cared for at Red Cloud; one son, Robert S. Miller of Edgar; three daughters, Mrs. Rose Nilo of New York City, Mrs. Maude Bottom of Edgar and Miss Lucy Fern Miller of Alpine, Texas; two sons-in-law, whom she held very dear; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Powell of Lake City, Illinois, and Mrs. Lucy Jones of Walla Walla, Washington; three brothers, Fred Blankinship of Edgar Thomas J. of Yates City, Kansas, and Robert D. of Grand Island, besides numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 23, 1942, at the McGhie Funeral Home in Edgar, Nebraska, by the Rev. Roy Coop, pastor of the Christian Church and interment was made in the family lot at the Edgar Cemetery.
