Carol Lee Gregory, 86, Mission, Kan., formerly of Harrison County, Mo., died Friday, September 17, 2010, at The Court at Overland Park, Overland Park, Kan. She was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Mt. Moriah, Mo., the daughter of Ray Ward and Lola Irene (Homan) Arney. She graduated from Bethany High School in 1941 and attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, Mo., for a brief time. On Jan. 24, 1943, she married James (J.C.) Gregory, Jr. in Maryville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2008. After J.C. was discharged from the service, they made their home in the Kansas City area where Carol was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company, prior to the company moving to Oklahoma. Carol was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mission. She was an avid gardener, loved researching and preserving the family history, and was the happiest when surrounded by her family. Survivors include two sons, James Gregory III, Heizer, Kan., and Terry (Debra) Gregory, Deadwood, SD; daughter, Vicki (Joe) Kerkvliet, Overland Park; sister-in-law, Wilma Paxton; three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Velma True Chism, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Gregory. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo. Burial in New Friendship Cemetery, Albany, Mo. The family will receive friends 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home where friends may call anytime after 8 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association of America and/or Crossroads Hospice in care of the Roberson Funeral Home, PO Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
