Mr. Henry Akins, age 65, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004. Visitation was Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, from 6-9 p.m., at Akins Funeral Home, in Russellville, Ala. The funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, 2 p.m., chapel service at Akins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Franklin Memory Gardens. Officiating at the funeral will be Brother Richard Parker and Dr. Gene Balding.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Nix Akins, Russellville, Ala.; son, Doil Wayne Akins, and Tammy, Russellville, Ala.; daughter, Holli Beth Akins, Russellville, Ala.; brother, A.H. Akins, and wife, Allyne, Russellville, Ala.; sister, Carolyn Bradford, and husband, Alton, Moulton, Ala.; grandchildren, Casey Akins and Amy Akins, both of Russellville, Ala.; sister-in-law, Racine Akins, Russellville, Ala.; nephews, Mike Akins, Russellville, Ala., Steve Bradford, Moulton, Ala., Mark Akins, Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, Boyce Daniel, Tuscumbia, Ala., Janice Smith, Russellville, Ala., Pam Bryant, Tuscumbia, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Nora Grissom Akins; brother, H.P.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Russellville, Ala., owner of Akins Floral Co., Inc., in Russellville, from 1988-2004, previously known as Henry's Florist, which was started in 1962. He was a former president of the Alabama State Florist Association, and also served as vice president, Northwest Area director, and convention chairman from 1994-1997. He was an instructor of the Leroy Black design class at Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., from 1992-1996 and 2004. He was symposium designer at the Mississippi State Florist Association Convention 1984-1986, served on numerous design team panels throughout Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee 1985-2003, and Alabama Florist of the year in 1996. He was a former Russellville Citizen of the Year, past president of the Russellville Jaycee service organization, member of the Russellville Merchants Association and member of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. He was a licensed Alabama funeral director and former co-owner of Akins Funeral Home, Inc., Russellville, Ala. Pallbearers will be Alan Colglazier, Mickey Gerstman, Harold Frederick, Dan Terry, Marty Doty, Jeff Bowling, Jimmy Hitt, Carl Terry, Johnny Malone Jr., John Malone III, Jerry Green and Mike Akins.
