Death of Miss Katherine Baalman

News of the death of Miss Katherine Baalman at her home north of Grinnell last Friday morning, cast a gloom over the entire community. She was sick less than a week and her sudden demise came as a shock to all. Lobar-pneumonia was the cause of her death. She took sick on Sunday, gradually grew worse, and died Friday morning.


Miss Baalman was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Baalman. She was born near Angelus, in Sheridan County, and lived all her life there. Attended the Angelus schools and was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was a prominent member in the social affairs of the young people of the community, and was known and loved by all. The large funeral cortege and the beautiful floral offerings, were silent testimony of the high esteem in which she was held by the community.


Obituary

Katherine Cecelia Baalman was born at Angelus, Kansas, July 30th, 1902, and died March 2nd, 1923, aged 20 years, 8 months and 2 days. The funeral was held at St. Paul's Church, Angelus, on Monday morning, March 5th, at 10:00 o'clock. Rev. Father Scanlan conducted the services and interment was made at the Angelus Cemetery. In the immediate family there remains the father and mother, four brothers and four sisters. The pall bearers were her girl friends: Misses Katherine Rueschhoff, Helen Dickman, Agnes Rietcheck, Della Hankins, Dora Mense and Anna Schwarz.
