My great-aunt Amy was the daughter of James Nicholas Mills (1861-1925) and Minnie E Wedge (1872-1942). James was born in Staffordshire, England and came to America sometime before 1892. Minnie was born in Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada. James and Minnie were married in Chicago, Illinois on 1 November 1892 and later moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They had five children.
Amy's siblings:
- Ada May (1892-1965)
- Ernest Edmond (1898-1939)
- Hilda Mildred (1900-1986)
- Thomas Edgar (1904-1972)
Aunt Amy met my great-uncle Bill Froelich outside of the Salvation Army store in downtown Cleveland where she was playing her guitar and singing religious songs. She was a devout Christian throughout her life. She was a missionary and also worked as a proofreader for the Union Gospel Press in Cleveland. She and Bill had no children.
Amy and Bill moved to Mesquite, Texas shortly before Bill died in 1962. Amy remained in Mesquite until she passed away in 1983.
Aunt Amy was also my godmother and I was named after her. Since we lived far away from each other when I was growing up, she would send me letters and cassettes which I still have.
