Lily Francis Dunn, 101, passed away on September 14, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born August 27, 1909 in Spanish Fork, Utah, to John Daniel and Edith Olive Mooney. Lily married George Dunn on October 16, 1928.

Grandma Lily enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers and had over 100 sets which she displayed in her home. She donated several of them which dated back to 1885 to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and they are on display there. Grandma also enjoyed gardening, dancing, and crocheting.

She was an avid reader and she loved the scriptures and read them daily. She believed in the power of prayer and it sustained her through 33 years of widowhood.

Grandma loved to walk and she did so every day even up to a few weeks before she died. She was able to live out her life in her home, enjoying her life the way she chose.

She and grandpa worked at the Salt Lake Temple for 7 years before he died in 1977. They also spent many days working on their genealogy. She became a member of the Century Club of Utah upon her 100th birthday that is awarded by the governor in honor of her contributions to the history of the state.

Grandma was a witness to a century of enjoyed growth and progress and she was bright and alert to the time of her death. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

We would like to acknowledge the compassionate care she received from the loving people who surrounded her throughout her years, but especially to our family, Mrs. Ingrid Broughton, Mrs. Anona Piercy, Mr. & Mrs. Gary Astill, Mr. and Mrs. Pepa Taufui, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Owens for their love and generosity throughout the years and especially at this time. Also to the nurses and aides at 1st Choice Health Care and Hospice for the encouragement and personal as well as professional care Grandma received from them

Grandma is survived by two sons, Richard EuGene (Nicky) and Bobbie DeWain (Peggy) Dunn, both living in West Valley City; one daughter, Patricia Arlean (Michael) Brady, living in Clarkesville, Georgia; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; two infant daughters; her mother and father; five brothers; one sister; and one foster son.

Graveside services will be held Monday, September 20, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at the mausoleum at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. West Jordan, Utah. A closed casket visitation will take place one hour prior to services in the mortuary.
