Obituary from the "Pioneer Journal" of Wadena, Minnesota dated 6 May 2004:
Bazil T. Derby, 93, of Verndale, Minn., died April 29, 2004, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena, Minn.
Mr. Derby was born Oct. 12, 1910, to Theodore and Lena (Cole) Derby in Doniphan, Neb. In December of 1911, he moved with his family to Hewitt, Minn. During the depression, he worked in a copper mine in Arizona for a year and a half. He married Verna Anderson March 4, 1940, at the United Methodist parsonage in Wadena. They sold their farm south of Verndale in 1972 and built a new home in town in 1973. After retirement, he worked odd jobs around Verndale. He enjoyed woodworking.
Funeral services were held May 3 at the Verndale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clifford Mays officiating. Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale with the Bielema Family Funeral Home of Verndale in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Aaron Derby, Bob Kempe, Marvin Runyan, Marlin Hennen, Joe Heinen and Sean Derby. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil 'Shorty' Seaton, Lawrence Heisman, Sydne Trapp and Tim Trapp.
Mr. Derby is survived by his wife, Verna; daughter Muriel (Jim) Weber of St. Paul, Minn.; son Gerald Derby of Cudahy, Wis.; brothers Robert (Marian) Derby of Verndale, and Obert (Annella) Derby of Springville, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Larry; brothers Clayton and Walter; and sister Carrie Thorson.

He married Verna Antonetta Anderson 4 Mar 1940 in Wadena, Wadena, Minnesota.
