Betty JoAnn Bertels, 44, died at 1:34 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1987, at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis due to ill health. She was born in Missouri, a daughter of Herbert & Mildred (Walker) Crites of Cottage Hills.

She married Allen D. Bertels on Dec. 17, 1971, in Dorsey, and he survives. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are two daughters, Laurie Edwards of Charleston, S.C., and Cindy Rector of Cottage Hills; five sons, Tim Bertels of Moro, John Bertels of Meadowbrook, Joseph Bertels of Bunker Hill, and Larry and Dean Bertels, both of Dorsey; five grandchildren; one sister, Betty Allen of Wood River; and three brothers, Darryll and Bruce Garner, both of Cottage Hills, and James Garner of Alton.
