William was a proud fourth generation German-Texan. His great-grandfather, Gustav, came to Texas from Germany at the port of Indianola and came inland to the LaVernia area where he became a farmer. William was born on the family farm, November 30, 1936 to Alvin Schroeder and Nora (Muehl) Schroeder. William had one brother, Alvin Jr. and one sister, Lorene Jackson. The family moved to Seguin and then to San Antonio where William started school. He graduated from Burbank High School in 1955. He married Kathleen Isaacs on February 22, 1958, and they had three children, Lora, Eileen and Chip.

In 1981, William, Kathleen and Chip flew to Germany to see their first grandchild, Joshua. During their married life they enjoyed traveling around the state of Texas and took several trips around the country. He was a big baseball fan and enjoyed playing and coaching. He also enjoyed fishing.

During his lifetime he worked for Samuels Glass Company, Coca Cola and Mobil Oil. He and his brother opened a service station on W. W. White Rd. in San Antonio in 1983. They closed the station in 1985 and in 1988 he started work at the Schertz Baptist Church as the custodian. He retired from there in 1997.
