Bronson, Mich. —Gladys M. Hirschy, 99, of Bronson, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Thurston Woods in Sturgis.

Mrs. Hirschy was born June 2, 1911, in Goshen, Ind., to Darwin and Edna (Conkle) Summey.

She married Elton C. Hirschy on Feb. 20, 1938, in Greenfield Mills, Ind. He preceded her in death in 1976.

Gladys worked 17 years for Kirsch Co. in Sturgis, retiring in 1973.
She has lived in the Bronson area since 1965. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Church and the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

Gladys was active with the Community Action Agency, Elder Services and was a supervisor of the Bronson meal site starting in 1991.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting and assisting the elderly in home care. Gladys was a very active, independent woman who stayed mobile with her scooter up until two years ago.

Gladys is survived by four sons, Rev. DeLayne (Carrol) Hirschy of Greenville, LaWayne "Bud" (Pauline) Hirschy of Colon, Vernon Hirschy of Bronson, Don Hirschy of Sturgis; one brother-in-law, Rev. Cletus Hirschy of Florida; one sister-in-law, Betty Hirschy of Indiana; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and a special thanks to Jerry Wired of Bronson for many years of tender care given to Gladys.
In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by two sons, DeWayne Hirschy and Leslie Hirschy; two daughters, Joyce Hirschy and Anola Rodgers; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Hill Missionary Church south of Bronson. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
