Pearl was born in either Utah (source: 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940 [husband's household] census records) or Colorado (source: 1900 and 1940 [employer's household] census records, and her death certificate where her 2nd husband was the informant)

She married Nicholas Harris James on 21 Mar 1919 in Edwards, Garfield, Colorado. They had three children together; Virginia, Frederick, and Ruth.

It appears that Nick and Pearl were separated in the 1940 census as Pearl, all three of their children and a son-n-law are all listed in the household of Nicholas James.

Pearl and her two youngest children are also found in the household of Delphine Caig, a French immigrant farmer. Pearl was his cook, her name was written as Lelia P. James, a widow.

Nick and Pearl divorced soon after and she married John Leonard Reed on 30 Jul 1942 in Eagle, Ada, Idaho
