Robert C. Doles Obituary


LONDONDERRY: Robert Clark Doles, 90, of Londonderry, died 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 in Valley View Care Center, Frankfort. He was born November 2, 1921, in Jackson County, to the late Rollo E. and Hazel Thacker Doles. On June 24, 1941, he married the late Martha A. Dempsey Doles. They were married 58 years.

Robert and Martha had five sons, Roger (Delores) Doles, David (Tina) Doles, Steven (Sherry) Doles, Christopher (Beth) Doles, all of Chillicothe and Robert J. Doles, of Londonderry; grandchildren, Roger II Doles, Gordon Doles, David Doles, Derek Doles, Shannon Evans, Megan Wood and Craig Doles. Robert had nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Delbert Doles and Tom (Patty) Doles. He was predeceased by wife, Martha A. Doles; a brother, Ovid (Verlyn) Doles; and a sister, Juanita (Wayne) Holdren.

Robert attended Coalton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation in 1944. He retired from the Mead Corporation, where he worked as an electrician for 44 years.

Robert was a skilled carpenter, building many houses including helping build homes for each of his 5 sons.

He was a sports fan, enjoying the Cincinnati Reds. Robert enjoyed playing golf and traveling on vacations. Robert was a dedicated family man, with a kind, generous heart. He loved his wife's country cooking and homemade desserts, especially chocolate.

Robert's family wishes to thank the staff at Valley View Care Center for their 8 years of loving care and kindness to Robert. He loved to make the nurses laugh.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011 in Evergreen Cemetery, Jackson County. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
