He was born at New Castle, Pa., October 18, 1852 and accompanied his family when they moved to Oaklacasa (Oskaloosa), Mahaska county, Iowa during his childhood. He came further west as a young man, spent two years in Polk county before he filed on a timber homestead in 1879 which has since always been his home. In 1883, he returned to Oakaloosa and married Anna Elizabeth Sevvers on Feb. 17, 1883.
He was survived by his daughter, Mrs. George Rohwer of Broken Bow and two sons, Fred H. of Dayton, Ohio and Glen C. of Norfolk, Va.
