Annie Collett Belk was the daughter of Allen Collett and Cornelia Enphrazine Correll. Annie was married to William "Buck" Atlas Belk and they had eight daughters and one son. William was a painter and Annie was a homemaker, a mill worker and a wonderful, fun, loving great grandmother.

Her mother didn't want Annie to get married and chased her to the train on her horse and buggy. But Annie and Buck escaped, eloping to Honea Path, SC, where they lived for a short time before returning to NC. Their first child was born in Honea Path.

There was always a covered cake on her dining room table, and fat back on the stove top. She had a small grape vineyard in her back yard that made a wonderful play house. She used to love to tell scary stories to get a "rise" out of us. She had hair down to her waist that she wore in a tiny bun, and she dipped snuff. Her doctor suggested she start dipping snuff for her nerves when she was a young mother raising nine children while working full time.
