Thomas E. Davis, Jr., 80, passed away at home Monday, August 11, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Rising Sun Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thomas was born November 9, 1927. He served in U.S. Navy during WWII. Thomas lived in California from 1953 to 1967. After returning to Des Moines, he worked as a master mechanic for Ruan Transport for 18 years. He then went to work for Van Wyk Freight Lines in Grinnell, retiring in 1991. Thomas was a member of the VFW, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax and a past member of the Prairie City Lyons. He loved refurbishing old homes. Thomas will be remembered as a loving husband, father, mentor and friend. Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara A. (Toomey) Davis; children, Maryalice (Bernard) Fogel, Thomas E. (Carla) Davis, III, Timothy J. (Dena) Davis, Daniel J. Davis and Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Mark) Boyd; sister, Charolette Davidson of Rockford, IL; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
