Jeff was the son of Moses Curtis who was born 1818 in Jackson County, Tennessee and died after 1900 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, and Elizabeth "Bettie" Blackshire/Blackshear. She was b. about 1822 in Tennessee, and died before 1900 in Tishomingo County, and was the daughter of Elisha Blackshear -- the last name is often spelled Blackshire.

Jeff was the grandson of Hillary Curtis, Sr., born 1795 South Carolina, and Susannah Gulley, born 1797 Virginia, daughter of William Gulley who died 1821 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Hillary and Susannah Gulley Curtis both died before 1870 in Pope County, Arkansas.

Jeff was the gr-grandson of Moses Curtis who was born abt 1760 in Virginia and died after the 1830 federal census was taken in Jackson County, Tennessee. His wife Martha "Patsey" (maiden name unknown) was born in Virginia about 1765 and she died in Union County, South Carolina before the 1810 federal census was taken in that county.

Jeff married Mary Ellen Osborn and they were the parents of:

(1) William Moses "Will", 1882-1966, m. Ollie B. Lambert; buried Shiloh Church Cemetery in Hardin County, Tennessee, shares marker with wife Ollie.

(2) John Edward, 1883-1964, m. first on 14 Jan 1906 to Isabell Barnes; married second to Mary Ruth Wood; he and both wives are buried at Center Hill Center near Counce, Hardin County, Tennessee.

(3) Samuel b/d 1884; buried New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Tishomingo County, Mississippi.

(4) Johnson Albert, 1885-1948, m. Josie Albinah Smith; he is buried next to parents Jefferson Davis Curtis and Mary Ellen Osborn Curtis at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Tishomingo County. Although Albert's double marker was inscribed with his wife Josie's name, she was buried in 1975 at Center Hill Cemetery, Counce near Pickwick Lake, Hardin County, Tennessee next to their son Joseph R.G. Curtis who d. in 1964.

(5) Susan Elizabeth "Lizzie", 1887-1922; buried New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Shares stone with her cousin Minnie Tuberville

(6) Joseph David "Joe", 1887-1957; m. Cora Lee Barnes; buried Antioch Cemetery, Burnsville, Tishomingo County, shares stone with wife Cora.
