Funeral services for L. B. (Lit) Davis, 86, who died this morning at 12:46 a.m. at his residence, 318 Johnson Street, will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. James T. Walker and the Rev. David Olhausen officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer cemetery at Malesus.
Born in Texas, son of the late Berry and Jane Black Davis, Mr. Davis moved to Pinson when he was five years of age, and spent the rest of his life in Madison County.
A retired farmer, Mr. Davis served 12 years as Madison County Tax Assessor. He was a Methodist and a member of Pinson Lodge No. 126, Woodmen of the World.
He was first married to the former Miss Edna Day, who died about 10 years ago, and to this union two children were born. Roy C. Davis of Pinson and Mrs. Ralph Pennington of Mercer, both of whom survive.
Later he was married to the former Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Day. He leaves his widow. two children; two brothers. George L. Davis, Pinson, and W. A. Davis, Jackson; one sister. Mrs. Nancy Peters, Jackson; three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The body will be at Smith Funeral Home until the hour for services. Active pallbearers, all grandsons or nephews, will be: James Day Davis, Roy Davis Jr., James Davis, Horace Davis, Nellie B. Davis and Walton Peters.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kit Noel, Tom Patton Jr., Billy Varnell, Ed Price, Arthur Garrett, I. M. Vaughn, Ben Warlick, Dr. Charles Wright, W. E Sims, G W. James, J. E. Flack, 0. F. Towater, J. Williams, Theo Jones, J. E. Owen, A. E. Floyd, Herron Pearson, G. L. Yarbo, J. C. Marlowe, Travis Lee, Gussie Stone, Grover Westover, John L. Mays, Murrell Smith, G. L. Rhodes and S. M. Rhodes.
