George was the oldest child in a family of six children. His brothers and sisters were: Harry J. Hipps (1902-1953), John A. Hipps (ca 1904-), Francis J. Hipps (1910-1996), Mary H. Hipps-Serafin (1912-2008), and half-sister Rose A. Hipps-LaPenna (1924-2006) all born in Cambria County.
On July 3, 1934, George married Blanche M. Lieb, born in Pennsylvania (1904-2006). Blanche was a daughter of Augustine A. Lieb (1878-1960), and Clare T. Williams (1879-1971).
George and Blanche had two known children: Bill and Edward.
The couple had only been married 15 years when George died in 1949.
