Mr. Joe Arnold Dies
Of Accident Injuries
Mr. Joe Arnold, 43, prominent man of New Hope, about three miles from Dallas, passed away at the local hospital on Dec. 18, 1946, a week after he had suffered fatal accidental injuries.
Funeral services were held at New Hope First Baptist Church on Dec. 20 and interment was in the New Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Warner Harris and the Rev. Clarence Campbell conducted the services. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Arnold, who was a saw miller, was returning from work on a truck. He was on the rear of the truck and when someone called to the driver to stop, Mr. Arnold jumped from the truck. The driver backed up, running over him. In the confusion, he started the truck forward, the wheels passing over the body again. It was thought on the day of his death that he was improving satisfactorily but a very sudden turn for the worse proved fatal.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Hollis, of Atlanta; Mrs. Mariam Ross, of Tennessee; Mrs. Alma Joe Ferguson, of Hiram; Miss Helen and Miss Aline Arnold of Dallas; two brothers, Dave, of Dallas and Jim of Barnesville; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Mathews, of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Fannie Davis, of Gadsden, Alabama, and Mrs. J.H. Woodall of Atlanta.
