Mr. James VanWinkle, age 67 of Orlando, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was born in Rockcastle County on Sept. 29, 1942 the son of Joe and Ruth Walden VanWinkle. He was a farmer and was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed playing and singing Bluegrass music and was a former member of the "The Bluegrass Gospel Echoes", "The Country Ramblers", and "The Renner Family". He loved and enjoyed fishing and being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Fannie Louise Croucher VanWinkle; three sons, Randy Lee VanWinkle of Mt. Vernon, and James Ray VanWinkle (Tanya) and Billy Joe VanWinkle (Amanda), both of Climax; two brothers, William Henry VanWinkle (Genevie) and Bennett Albert VanWinkle, both of Orlando; and five sisters, Elizabeth Baker of Climax, Hazel Baker (Jesse) of Orlando, Christine Couch (Troy) of Ohio, Barbara Ballinger (Jerry) of Flat Gap, and Sara Jane Hammond (Steve) of Berea. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Randy Colby, Kaylee Renea, Devon Lee, James Robert, Logan Hunter, Jayce Anthony, and Bailey Jo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby sister, Lily Belle.
