While growing up, Helen lived in Denton and attended school there through Junior High. She then lived in Houston and attended San Jacinto High School in 1937. In addition, Helen also lived for a while with a cousin in Dallas, Texas.
She first married R.C. (Bob) Truett in 1939 and they divorced after the war. They did not have any children.
On Valentine's Day, February 14, 1947, she married Truman Bryan Woolley, son of Miner Lafayette and Jennie Lou Bryan Woolley of Richmond. They had a daughter, Melissa Anne and a son Gaylon Bryan. Truman & Helen divorced, but she always filled the mother-role with Truman's two older daughters, Faye and Rhonda and they both loved her. Faye's special memories of her include Helen sitting her down for the "Birds & Bees" talk only to learn that Faye's friends had already informed her. Helen was a floral designer by trade and Faye said that she always rearranged the corsages that boys would bring to her daughters. But most importantly, Faye remembers Helen being there for her when her children were born, and many other times she needed her.
Helen later was happily married to Bob Pugh. He passed away before her.
Helen loved to sew and made most of the children's clothes. She also loved to have friends over to play cards.
Helen was a member of the Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Texas State Floral Association.
Helen passed away on August 33, 1999 in Clear Lake City, Texas. At her request, her cremains are with family. * * *
